Owl Crate Unboxed: November’s Myths and Legends (Plus Soundless Giveaway!)

November 22, 2015 Books 12

I’m a bit obsessed with subscription boxes. The surprise! The loot! The thrill of getting mail! Here’s a look into my latest box: Owl Crate.

The Book

Soundless by Richelle Mead

This was a little deflating as I already have a copy of this book from BEA. BUT, that is the risk you run with subscription boxes. This final edition is still very beautiful though! And because I have an ARC already, I will be giving this copy away, replete with the bookmark and temporary tattoos it came with. My review for Soundless isn’t up yet, but it was an enjoyable, if simplistic story. Enter for a chance to win below.

The Other Goodies

Snow White Tea by adagio teas
An apple tea blend to help Snow White ward off the wicked Queen’s poisonous spell and awake with the gentle kiss from her handsome Prince.

This was a very delicious surprise! I made myself a cup right away in order to take some pictures of the loot, and I’m really glad I received this flavor. It is a mixture of green rooibos, apples, hibiscus, cocoa nibs, cherries, cherry and apple flavors, and coconut. It smells glorious and is perfect for chilly weather.

Castle necklace, Camp Half-Blood bracelet, Mermaid mirror

So far I have enjoyed the actual jewelry pieces they have included in the box. This castle locket from The Leaky Cauldron is pretty sweet, and I will definitely wear it. But for every hit in a box, there is a definite miss, and that falls to two items for me, the “mermaid” mirror and the plastic jelly bracelet. I’m not sure who actually uses pocket mirrors, or wears bracelets like that. I have no interest in the Camp Half-Blood bracelet, and will probably end up pitching it. The mirror could be useful, but it feels like such a random addition to this box.

Overall, this wasn’t a great showing. I really liked the tea and the necklace, and if I didn’t already have the book I would have been happy with that too! However, I do like giving books to people, so an unexpected giveaway it is! I’m open to shipping Internationally, so have at it!

Have you read Soundless? And what about jelly bracelets? I feel like those were super popular 10 years ago (LIVESTRONG, anyone?) and are just kind of throw-aways these days.

Ah yes, I suppose if you read a lot of the high profile books you run the risk of getting a book you’ve already read, especially when it comes to Owl Crate. Looking back at their previous months, all of their titles have been pretty big/hyped books if I’m not mistaken. Definitely something for me to consider, if I decide to pursue a sub.

It is not something I really would have had to worry about had I not gone to BEA and grabbed up books earlier this year. :/ So far, only one out of three has been a duplicate, so not too bad. I’m hoping this doesn’t repeat itself or I may have to cancel and find a different type of book box.

I have no jumped on this boxes! I think it’s because I am not big on surprises, and the NOT KNOWING would kill me LOL

As for Soundless, I have not read it yet!

I love that tea box. I hate tea though :p That necklace is adorable and I’m really curious about that book. I’ve heard more negative things than positive things, but I’m still willing to give it a shot.

Woww, that castle necklace is absolutely beautiful! And I love that they give you tea – a delight to drink while enjoying a book!

I’ve read Soundless and actually didn’t like it that much. :’) I expected a lot more Chinese culture (REPRESENT!) and the ending just felt like a cop out. Either way, it was still cute, like you said.

The fear of getting a book I already own is one of the things stopping me from signing up to subscription boxes… Not really. That’s a lie. I just don’t have any money to spare on the boxes. I wish I could subscribe to them all! There are some really cool items included in them.

I actually received Soundless for review and am hoping to get to it soon!

Too bad that you already got a copy of SOUNDLESS, but hey, like you said, giving it to someone else isn’t a shabby idea either! I still wish we have something like this here in the Philippines. We apparently do have subscription boxes as well, but they’re more for the fashion/make-up people.

  7. Jeann @ Happy Indulgence

This is pretty much why I don’t do subscription boxes, because I don’t know if I’d have the book already! Although it is so generous of you to have a giveaway! I like the little castle necklace and the mermaid mirror, it’s super cute.
