Monthly Wrap-Up: NaNoing through November

December 1, 2015 Housekeeping 6

Monthly wrap up

November is over and so is NaNo! While I enjoy the mad-dash writing, it does mean I don’t have a great deal of time to do much else. :/ That being said, there’s not much to wrap up in terms of November, though I am really happy to share this:

I finished the 50K on November 30 at 50,666 words, which is pretty awesome considering my story includes blood magic. :D The story is about halfway done, so there’s more work for me to do. But also less pressure to get it done so I should be blogging and reading more in December. As for Ashley, she had a valiant run but didn’t technically win, though I think anyone participating is a winner! She wants to finish her draft by the end of the year, which I want to do as well.

Oh and I also began watching The 100 on Netflix and LOVE IT.

Can we talk about this for a second? I mean, I’ve seen so much about this show on Twitter, and while most of it was about shipping, I’m not really into it for that. It is a really fantastic sci-fi show with lots of deaths and consequences and it makes me so happy. Okay, maaaybe I’m into Lincoln + Octavia.

So far though (I’m few episodes into Season 2) I’m really content with the minimal amount of romantic drama. I mean, I know there is some tension around Finn/Raven/Clarke whatnot, but the big issues are handled no matter what. If anything, there is more familial drama going on! Also, I’m of the mind that Clarke should just stay single and badass.

I’ve seen some pretty critical reviews on the book though, and I’m not certain I want to read it.

Lovely Literature posts from November

Light month, people.
It was also Sci-Fi Month, and I put up 2.5 posts (we’re classifying Landline as magical realism. Thanks, Beth!) Not as much as I would have liked, but writing!

Books I read

Santa Olivia tower of thorns The Dark Mirror dragon age
dark currents nuts nice dragons finish last

Santa Olivia by Jacqueline Carey 3/5
Tower of Thornes by Juliet Marillier 5/5
The Dark Mirror by Juliet Marillier 4/5
Dragon Age World of Thedas Vol. 2 by Ben Gelinas 5/5
Dark Currents by Jacqueline Carey 4/5
Nuts by Alice Clayton 5/5
Nice Dragons Finish Last by Rachel Aaron 4/5

  • It was a good month for two of my favorite authors — two different series for each! I didn’t plan on it, but then again I was trying to read books on my shelf. There’s a lot of Marillier and Carey there!
  • Dragon Age World of Thedas Vol. 2 was a fun gift to myself. I loved seeing the concept art and all the lore. My inner nerd (okay, outer nerd) is satisfied!
  • Nuts was supposed to be a buddy read with Ashley. She gave me Wallbanger as part of one of our Beer & Book Exchanges and it was hilarious, so when I saw Nuts I thought we should read it together. Unfortunately my library copy came in and hers has not. I think we shall be doing a joint review on it though. :)
  • Nice Dragons Finish Last was very enjoyable, and I started it while traveling after finishing Nuts so quickly. I’m rather glad my other physical book was in the back of the car, or this would have waited for a while longer!

My favorite book

tower of thorns

Tower of Thorns is offically my favorite book of 2015, and I also read its predecessor Dreamer’s Pool this year. I know there is another month’s worth of reading left, but Tower of Thorns was everything I could have ever wanted.

There’s a giveaway!

I received a copy of Soundless by Richelle Mead as part of my last Owl Crate. I already have one, so I’m giving away this copy! Enter my international giveaway — odds are pretty good in your favor so far. :)

How was your November? Did you participate in NaNo? Have you read any of the books on my list? CAN WE DISCUSS THE 100?

Good job with NaNo! That is a lot of work, I did it a few years ago and it was so stressful! I keep hearing how great The 100 is, so I need to start watching it. And you managed to read a lot, even with NaNo:-)

  2. Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum

Congratulations! I aimed to finish NaNo before Thanksgiving because I knew this year my parents would be in town and I would get no chance to write for the rest of the month. I ended up squeaking by with 50002 words one day after my deadline, and I was right, for the next few days I got nothing else done. It was fun, but I’m so glad it’s over and I can get back to my regular schedule again :)

  3. Jeann @ Happy Indulgence

Congrats on NaNo Anne, great work on finishing it a few days to go! I’ve met Juliet Marillier but I haven’t read her books yet, it’s great to hear that you’re reading more off your shelf and that you loved it. Have a lovely December!

    I’m also a firm Lincoln/Octavia shipper :D
Congrats on finishing NaNo and good luck with continuing your story!
I can’t wait to get started in Tower of Thorns, she is one of my favorite authors.
