Top Ten Tuesday: Matching songs and books

February 16, 2016 Randomz 4

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish where people who love lists and books can share their favorites based on a certain topic each week.

I haven’t done a TTT in some time — ooof! This seemed like a creative topic, but I know I won’t have ten ideas to give.  I only have two, but they are songs that make me think of books every time I hear them.

Landline by Rainbow Rowell and Hello by Adele

Umm, have you heard this song before? Adele is lamenting about her phone calls not being picked up. This is the essence of the sheer paranoia known as Landline.

Hello from the other side
I must have called a thousand times
To tell you I’m sorry for everything that I’ve done
But when I call you never seem to be home

Cress by Marissa Meyer and Satellite/ Stealing Time by Above and Beyond

This one takes a little more explaining. Above and Beyond made a great acoustic album, taking some of their most popular EDM songs and turning them into magic (that entire album is gorgeous). The blend of the songs Satellite and Stealing Time is my favorite, and it totally reminds me of Cress and Thorne.

You’re a half a world away
But in my mind I whisper every single word you say
And before you sleep at night
You pray to me, your lucky star
Your singing satellite

I’m stealing time from my own life
All the hours that God sends
I’m flying high on my red-eye
And winding down the window

My future is a Valentine
Stolen in the perfect crime
And I know I’m living out of line
But with a blazing smile I’ll die

The lyrics to Satellite are a little creepy, and they fit with Cress obsessing over Thorne before she even meets him, up in her satellite in space. And the lyrics to Stealing Time are all about a reckless guy, who lives out of line. Ahem, that is Thorne.

I know, only two. Spot on though, right?

I have heard of that Adele song;0). I honestly hadn’t heard the other song(s) and they are beautiful and perfect for Cress – not only the words but also the dreamy quality of the music. Great two choices! Two more than I came up with!
